Happy Sunday! It has been a very long week and a half in my household, and I was beginning to wonder if this post would even happen today (I actually wrote this sentence on Friday, if that tells you anything). I had guests visiting for almost a week, which took up a lot of my time. Baby Aren has also been extremely fussy and clingy (helloooo growth spurt!), which means I can barely get anything done. Writing and working out just didn’t happen most days. I have already lost count of how many times she has interrupted me writing this post. On top of that, my son caught a stomach bug and was out of school for a couple of days — talk about not being able to think!! But even with everything going on, I’ve been in a thankful mood. Maybe it’s because of Thanksgiving coming up next week. Yes, I’m very thankful for my family. Even when my kids are arguing or doing everything possible to make me lose my temper, I’m thankful for them. My husband and my son both encourage me to workout, and they exercise with me! My older daughter joins me on weekend runs. And my younger daughter…well, she doesn’t exercise with me yet, but she usually gives me one long nap every morning so I can have time to myself. And I am absolutely thankful for THAT!
I think I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: Shaun T is my faaaavorite celebrity trainer. I enjoy working out with different trainers – Autumn, Sagi, Tony, and Chalene. But none of them motivate me like Shaun does. Since I met him for the first time in 2013, I have just felt differently about him than I do the others. He is so genuine and so motivational, and he can honestly bring me to tears when he is speaking. I broke out an INSANITY MAX:30 workout on Friday for the first time in months, and ohhh it felt so good. Very difficult and highly modified, but it felt great to push my body. Thanks, Shaun!
My New Camera
A few years ago, I had a very nice Nikon camera. I wasn’t even close to being able to take professional photos with it, but I played around a bit and took some that I thought were decent. When I divorced in 2014, I left that camera behind. Just this week, I decided to treat myself to a good quality camera again. It wasn’t as expensive as the one I used to have, but it will do the job. And I’m very excited to start testing it out, and maybe even improve my skills a bit. Hopefully you will see some better blog photos posted soon!
I have wanted a Fitbit for over a year now, and just never bought one. I actually asked for it for my birthday, but it seems that my husband “forgot” to buy it. Ha. Well, now I am the proud owner of a Fitbit Surge! I’m choosing to overlook the fact that he bought a new one for himself and gave me his old one that he no longer wanted. That’s ok. I’m really enjoying the motivation and encouragement I get from my friends with the daily challenges. Last night I was actually excited to see that I met my step goal at 11:30 PM while I was up walking a very fussy baby. Gotta find the silver lining in things, right?
I know a lot of people don’t get along with their in-laws, but I’m really happy that I have mine. She is such a loving, thoughtful person, and she treats my older two kiddos as if they were always her grandchildren. I’m happy that she is coming to visit us this week, and will soon be moving here from California! I’m so thankful that my children will have a grandparent close by to spend time with them. And while it may sound a little selfish, I’m kind of excited to have someone to watch the littles while I go for a long run sometimes. I don’t think she will mind some baby snuggles while I get some fresh air.
Of course there are many more things I am thankful for, but these are just five things that have been on my mind this week. My family has been writing down our thanks on leaves cut from fall-colored paper and hanging them in our dining room window. We plan to read them all during Thanksgiving dinner. This is our first year doing this activity, but I would love to make it an annual tradition.
